Ivan is the founder and owner of New York Scholastic Chess Club.
Ivan has the unique experience of having grown up in New York City playing scholastic chess at a top level. His instructors included Josh Waitzkin and Bruce Pandolfini, some of the most well known chess players and instructors in the world. With that comes the understanding of what is needed to be successful as a student and teacher
Ivan has been teaching chess for twelve years and the head chess teacher at The Anderson School (P.S. 334) for five years.
Over the past 5 years the Anderson chess program has nearly tripled in size and its students are some of the most successful players not only in the city but also in the nation with multiple team championships and individual championships.
IM Girogi Bakhtadaze
Giorgi Bakhtadaze is an International Chess Master who has been teaching chess in New York City for over 20 years with multiple students who have gone on to be national champions. He is a two time world youth champion and 11 time Georgian Youth National Champion. In his personal life, Giorgi is married with 4 kids.
Matheu Jefferson has been teaching chess since he was a high school student at Bronx Center for Science and Math. While there he helped start a chess team, which won the 12th grade National Championship in 2012. He has been with Anderson the past several years while also getting his Bachelor's Degree in Physics.
Fabio began his chess teaching journey by working with children in his building as a high school junior and since then has gone to work students of various backgrounds, including those with special needs.
He teaches students from beginner to advance and specializes in teaching positional theory and middle game analysis. His personal teaching motto is "Getting the right answer is a good thing but knowing why the answer is right is the real accomplishment."
Aside from teaching Fabio is a very active chess competitor who can be found competing in local tournaments at the Marshall Chess Club and for this reason he is also a very patient and understanding chess coach when he supervises his students during their chess tournaments.
FM Seun Bisiriyu
Seun has been teaching chess professionally for more than 10 years. He started teaching chess in Nigeria where they used a Chess Aided Mathematics Program (CAMP) to help kids with challenges especially in Mathematics.
Seun has a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a good number of professional certifications in the fields of International trade, Logistics and Supply chain management.
Seun's passion is chess as a player, coach, tournament organizer, arbiter and journalist but his favorite is playing and coaching. He has a Fide Instructor title and a Fide Organizer norm. He really enjoys working with kids and has a way of teaching that tends to increase kid's analytical comprehension while been interesting.
Anna is a certified early childhood teacher who is continuing her Masters in Early Childhood Education/Special Education in Teachers College, Columbia University. She first learned to play chess in 5th grade at her local public school in Queens. She is currently a teacher assistant and after-school chess instructor for young children.
